We saw a very different side to Kanye West on Friday.

No he didn't debut a new look. Nor did he release new music.

He smiled.

And it was an auspicious happening, that was luckily captured on film.

The shock factor is a solid 10/10 only because the rapper does it so rarely we don't know what to expect when he actually does show happiness through the act of grinning.

The Gold Digger hitmaker, 40, was spotted heading to his office in Los Angeles on Friday, sporting a pale pink hoodie and white-wash jeans.

He was carrying a laptop as he got ready to take care of important Kanye business.

In another shot, he can be seen flashing the all-important smile. Even though you can tell his heart just isn't in it.

He waved as he exited his car just to add another rather un-Kanye element.

The superstar isn't known for showing off a smile, choosing instead to appear mysterious and sulky in photos - the markings of a very serious artist.

His rare display of happiness comes after he looked rather glum when he stepped out with his wife, Kim Kardashian, on Thursday night.

The star pair kept straight faces as they arrived for her 37th birthday dinner at Carousel in Los Angeles - with neither of them managing a celebratory smile to ring in the wondrous milestone.

Perhaps Yeezy was flashing his gnashers this time 'round in anticipation of Halloween on Tuesday.

After all, he who smiles after not smiling for so long is the spookiest of all.
