Prince George and Princess Charlotte arrive to meet their baby brother: Little Royals steal spotlight outside Lindo Wing

Prince George and Princess Charlotte have arrived at the hospital to meet their newborn baby brother, who was born earlier today.

The children were taken to the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, to meet the youngest prince with their father William, 35.

William was seen smiling as he escorted the two youngsters into the building, which has had the eyes of the world on it all day.

Both George and Charlotte grinned, with the princess looking particularly gleeful as she was led inside the building shortly after 4.45pm.

George, who has spent the day at school and was dressed in his school uniform, appeared a little shy as he arrived, but Charlotte waved at the cameras twice, turning to do so and smiling as she walked up the steps.

Kensington Palace said the baby's name would be "announced in due course", but Arthur is already the favourite with punters, according to the bookies.

They had been picked up from Kensington Palace by their father.

The Duchess of Cambridge earlier delivered the boy, who weighed 8lbs 7oz, at the same hospital where her two oldest children were born.

She "safely" her third child just hours after being admitted to hospital, and as the country marked patriotic St George's Day.

His dad, Prince William, was present for the birth, and both mum and baby are "doing well", Kensington Palace said in a statement this afternoon.

Family members have been informed and are "delighted" with the news.

"Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs. The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz," the palace said via Twitter.

"The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.

"Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well."

The statement added: "The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news."

The royal baby arrived into the world only about five hours after Kate was admitted to hospital in the "early stages of labour".

As the Duchess delivered her second son, crowds of well-wishers waited outside the maternity unit, holding banners and Union Jack flags.

After news emerged of the birth, they began cheering loudly and clapping.

Prime Minister Theresa May congratulated Kate and William on the latest addition to their family, and wished them "great happiness".

She tweeted: "My warmest congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their baby boy.

"I wish them great happiness for the future.

The new Prince of Cambridge, a younger sibling to Kate's two older children, George, four, and two-year-old Charlotte, is now fifth in line to the throne.
