The two global singing superstars, in their 20s, are believed to be single.

And when former One Direction hunk Harry Styles kissed Kiwi songstress during the ARIA Awards in Sydney on Tuesday, fans took note.

A twitter meltdown soon emerged as fans tried their best to make sense of the interaction between the pair, which was aired live on Channel Nine.

Harry, 23, and Lorde, 21, were both up for Best International Act at the annual music awards show, with the shiny totem presented to Harry.

The Sign Of The Times singer graciously accepted his win, but first approached Lorde for a hug and kiss.

He went in for two small pecks on the cheek, while Lorde only appeared ready for one.

The display had the crowd of fans screaming and Twitter in a spin.

'Lorde be getting two kisses from Harry I am dead what a gentleman', 'Yes, Harry Styles and Lorde hugged and kissed at the #ARIAs & we are shook' two fans wrote.

Many agreed Harry was an 'absolute sweetheart' and 'gentleman' for stopping by Lorde before accepting the win.

Some fans online were already shipping 'Horde', while others pointed out how a relationship would be a potential betrayal to her pal Taylor Swift.

'I'm confused. I thought Lorde was Team Swift. Did she just burn her bff? Why is everyone happy about this?'

Another added: 'I'm not saying they're dating or anything but you can believe if Harry and Lorde had a kid and what their voice would sound like? heaven.'

Harry was presented his award from Pitch Perfect 3 stars Rebel Wilson, Ruby Rose, Anna Camp and Brittany Snow.

The former boy band member took to the stage at The Star, wearing his snazzy purple suit, much to the thrill of adoring fans.

'Thank you for having me here and having me back. I obviously wouldn't be here for the fans who voted,' Harry told the audience and viewers at home.

'Congratulations on your recent political decision,' he added, talking about the 'yes' vote to marriage equality.

Harry eventually took to the stage for a lively performance of his hit track song Kiwi, who he is yet to reveal inspired the track.
