Cara Delevingne debuts much darker locks as she gets into character on set of new series Carnival Row... before stealing a sneaky cigarette break

She has since turned her focus to acting, after catapulting into the limelight as a high-profile model.

And setting to work on her new TV series Carnival Row on Friday, Cara Delevingne debuted a new look, as she appeared to sport much darker locks while getting into character.

The Paper Towns star, 25, looked strikingly different, having ditched her bottle blonde tresses of late, and couldn't resist stealing a break to smoke a cigarette during her time on set.

Cara is currently in Prague working on Amazon's dark fantasy drama that also stars Orlando Bloom.

The eight-episode series, directed by Paul McGuigan, is believed to be set in a neo-Victorian city where mythical creatures have gathered, prompting tensions to rise between the new inhabitants and the city's citizens as a murder investigation takes place after a string of unexplained killings.

Cara stars in the show as Vignette Stonemoss - 'a faery fleeing persecution' - and given fans a look at herself in character, she was seen sporting a traditional black dress that nipped in a the waist and boasted ruched sleeves.

Its full skirt billowed out around the fashion star's legs and featured yellow floral detailing around the hem.

Stepping out in a complementing pair of lace-up shoes, Cara looked worlds away from her usual edgy self, thanks to her seemingly newly-dyed locks.

Still favouring her cropped style, Cara added a rope hairband that tied together at the base of her head to her bonce.

Followed by a camera, the starlet appeared to be filming new scenes for the series - later slipping into another costume.

No doubt hard at work, Cara couldn't resist stealing a moment to herself in between takes and enjoyed a cigarette before resuming her role.

Making her mark on the acting world, Cara has starred in several titles, including Suicide Squad, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets and Tulip Fever.

Speaking about her transition from the runway to the big screen, Cara previously admitted to Radio Times: 'I didn't like myself as a model. I didn't like what I stood for. I didn't like what it was turning me into.

'Not that I was focused about how I looked all the time, but it is kind of about that.

'That is not me at all – you speak to all my oldest best friends and they know I’m not a model.'

Despite gracing the covers for Vogue, GQ and Cosmopolitan, the pixie-haired star had always wanted to venture into the film industry.

She added: 'To be honest, acting is something I've wanted to do my entire life. It really teaches me so much about myself and about life, and that’s what I’ve always wanted to do. It makes me very happy.'

While she hasn't ruled out a return to modelling, Cara has insisted it would have to be on her 'own terms', as she explained: 'Now when I model, I get to style my own shoots and decide who I work with.'
